Dusting


Always dust first and vacuum after. Any bits of dust and dirt will fall to the floor where they will be collected when vacuuming.
The ideal dust cloth is a damp, clean, cotton cloth. Hold the cloth by a corner and lightly mist with clean water from a spray bottle. The cloth should be just about damp enough to pick the dust up without leaving streaks on the furniture & appliances.

Dusting wall units : first remove objects and dust. Then dust the shelf both underneath and behind. Start from the top of the unit and work your way down to the bottom.

WARNING never dust a warm or hot light bulb with a damp cloth, as the bulb could shatter.

Slightly dampen a clean soft paintbrush to remove dust from louvered doors, telephone keys, carved furniture, speakers, etc.

Clean mini blinds easily by Closing the slants, dust, close the slants the opposite way and dust again.
Wipe wood surfaces with the grain to avoid streaks.

Animal hair

A damp cloth or rubber glove will help remove pet hair from curtains, furniture, etc also sticky tape can be useful.

Floors

Sweep through or vacuum the floors first to collect any crumbs or dirt before mopping. Start by washing the floor in the farthest corner of the room and work your way towards the door.

Vacuum or sweep the bathroom floor to collect any loose hair, dust & dirt before washing the floor. Remove any mats or rugs, wastebaskets and any other items on the floor that might get in the way.

Be sure that the right vacuum attachment is used for the specific floor surface you are cleaning (hard-carpet, etc)

Place a door mat inside and outside all entrance's to your home to reduce the amount of dirt that is brought in on shoes and boots, etc.

White goods

Any appliances that hang under cabinets save both space and time, as cleaning under them will not be an issue.
Microwave cleaning made easy, fill a cup with water and microwave on high for a couple of minutes. The steam will loosen any hard baked on food so you can easily wipe it clean.

Allow burner rings and drip pans from the stove to soak in a sink full of hot, soapy water. This will loosen the dirt and make them a lot easier to clean.

Spray oven racks in a plastic rubbish bag for easier cleaning.

Dish cloths and sponges can be thriving in germs. Wash dish cloths regularly, and microwave damp sponges in the microwave on high for several minutes to kill most bacteria.

Spills

Spills should be cleaned immediately when they are much easier to clean and have less chance of staining. Once the spill has dried and hardened, it can be much more difficult to remove.

Vacuum
Change the vacuum bag as recommended by the manufacturer to maintain maximum suction.
A handheld vacuum with a beater bar is useful for vacuuming furniture and carpeted stair steps.


Bathroom

Foggy mirrors can be easily avoided by rubbing a small amount of glycerine onto the surface.
To unblock shower heads, remove and soak the head in boiling hot water and vinegar.
It will be much easier and less time consuming to clean the bathroom if it is done quite often. Then you will be maintaining the room instead of letting mildew and soap scum build up over time.

Electronics

Always use caution when cleaning electrical equipment
Remove the dust from the front of stereo speakers with the vacuum hose and flat attachment.
Always check the owner’s manual for instructions regarding the care and cleaning of your electronic equipment

Windows

The most successful method for windows is to use a good glass cleaner along with a squeegee.

Other cleaning tips
